This type of system has been copied to a degree in both Australia and Canada where it is called by the same name of Medicare. Nevertheless, these systems of health care where everyone benefits from a administration based service contrast starkly with those in America where almost all healthcare is paid for through the provision of insurance schemes or privately. The healthcare industry is considered a profession which makes use of the skills of professional health care workers who provide a service related to the preservation or improvement of the health of individuals who are injured, sick, disabled, or infirm.
Worldwide, over recent decades, there has been a huge increase in the sum of money spent on health care and it is now one of the fastest growing sectors in every developed country with an average cost of ten percent of the gross domestic product. Although in 2003 the healthcare costs paid to across the entire healthcare system, consumed 15.3 percent of the GDP of The USA, the largest of any country in the world and is expected to reach 19.6 percent of GDP by 2016.
This fact is highlighted by the large number of American citizens who have serious concerns about their healthcare, around one hundred eighty million to be exact, and the main worry for anyone seeking work in The United States. A problem which came to a head when General Motors was seriously looking at bankruptcy over the strain its health car program was putting on the company. Luckily it didn’t happen after some concessions and compromises made with the unions but it does show how something like this can have an outcome on even the biggest of companies.
Health care has become an extremely fundamental issue to Americans one which employers must address to a work force which demands better health care benefits. The health of the individuals on this planet should be something that is established on prevention rather than cure, a case of being proactive as apposed to reactive.
